The Labour Court recommended on 24 July 2008 that Mandate accept proposals made by Debenhams on 19 December 2007 in a dispute over commission pay at the company’s Henry Street store. It also recommended discussions aimed at improving the group’s one-in-six ratio of Saturdays off. Former Roches Stores staff transferred to Debenhams with their previous terms, creating a two-tier pay system at the Henry Street store. Debenhams wanted to bring those staff onto its pay scales. Mandate argued that commission terms had been guaranteed when Debenhams acquired the store and that redevelopment could increase sales. Debenhams said its proposals would control costs without redundancies and make pay more consistent across its stores.
