The Labour Court recommended against the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union’s claim for pay parity for workers at Athy International Concentrates’ Athy plant compared with workers transferring from its Drogheda plant. The recommendation was signed on 27 June 2008. The union said the work was comparable and workers had expected pay parity. The company argued that applying the Drogheda rates could threaten the Athy plant’s viability and that Athy pay rates followed an agreed review process.
