The Labour Court recommended that Cpi Limited offer voluntary redundancy first in a dispute with the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union over redundancy selection and terms. If voluntary redundancies did not cover the required number, the Court recommended compulsory redundancies on a last-in, first-out basis. The Court recommended statutory redundancy pay plus three weeks’ average pay per year of service, calculated using the last 13 weeks of 2007 and including 50% of overtime earnings. It also recommended three weeks’ average pay per year for workers with less than two years’ service, prorated for less than a year. Its recommendation included the company’s conciliation proposals for two potential early retirees and four employees taking voluntary redundancy. The recommendation was dated 23 June 2008.
