The Labour Court recommended that HSE South arrange an independent review of references that led it to withdraw a Non-Consultant Hospital Doctor’s offer of a Senior House Officer training post. The recommendation was signed on 16 June 2008.
The worker had come second in the recruitment process. HSE South withdrew the offer after a Clinical Director reviewed three consultant references. The Irish Medical Organisation represented the worker and said the referees had described him as someone they would re-employ and recommend to another employer.
The Court recommended a review by an independent, suitably qualified practitioner. If the second opinion was favourable, the worker should be offered a place on the next programme. HSE South and the Irish Medical Organisation were to discuss the review arrangements, after which the union’s compensation claim could return to the Court.
