In 2008, the Labour Court recommended that Cork County Council concede the Irish Municipal, Public and Civil Trade Union’s claim on overtime premium rates. The recommendation was signed on 28 May 2008. The union said the national scheme gave staff asked to work beyond normal hours a choice of premium rates or time off in lieu. Cork County Council said budgetary cutbacks continued and any extra hours worked would be offset with time off. The Court said the national agreement applied to Cork County Council and recommended that it adhere to its terms.
