In 2008, the Labour Court recommended that Cork County Council apply its 2001 relocation arrangement to staff temporarily moved from its Motor Tax offices and pay subsistence in line with normal revenue rules. The recommendation was signed on 28 May 2008. The Irish Municipal, Public and Civil Trade Union said the 2001 agreement had been applied to about 350 staff previously relocated and estimated the cost of applying it to the affected staff at approximately €160,000. Cork County Council opposed the claim, citing its financial position and national pay agreement provisions on flexibility and modernisation. The Court said affected staff had come to understand during negotiations that the arrangement would apply to them.
