The Labour Court recommended that the Teachers Union of Ireland accept Dundalk Institute of Technology’s proposal to introduce pay-and-display parking for some campus spaces. The recommendation was signed on 22 May 2008. The institute proposed increasing parking from 738 to 1,169 spaces, including 538 pay-and-display spaces costing €2 a day. It said demand exceeded supply and free staff parking was not part of employment conditions. The union argued staff needed cars for work and annual charges of €250 or €280 would effectively cut their pay. The Court said the institute was not obliged to provide staff parking and recommended the proposal be accepted.
