The Labour Court recommended changes to Smurfit Kappa News Press Limited’s sick-pay scheme and two €2,500 payments for workers required to work night shifts in its dispute with the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union. The recommendation was signed on 21 May 2008. The Court recommended up to 12 weeks of sick pay per rolling year: six weeks at full pay and six at half pay. It did not recommend conceding the union’s claim for a higher night-shift differential. Instead, it recommended payments of €2,500 on 1 June 2008 and 1 June 2009 in return for the workers’ continued cooperation.
