The Labour Court recommended that Advanced Nurse Practitioners be paid on the Band 1 scale from 1 July 2004, or from their appointment if later. The recommendation was signed on 19 May 2008. The Irish Nurses' Organisation, Psychiatric Nurses' Association and Services Industrial Professional Technical Union sought Band 1 pay regardless of hospital band. HSE Employers Agency acknowledged that lower rates did not reflect practitioners’ expertise but said the change could have knock-on costs. The Court said the role was clinical rather than managerial and the recommendation created no precedent for other groups.
