In 2008, the Labour Court recommended against conceding the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union’s claim against Wincanton for a 15-minute overtime allowance each time fuel-tanker drivers collected loads from the Shell terminal. The recommendation was signed on 7 May 2008. The union said the extra pick-ups saved the company money and added responsibility for drivers. Wincanton argued that productivity payments covered the work and that the claim would increase costs. The Court considered both sides’ arguments and the provisions of Towards 2016.
