Labour Court recommends consultant review of HSE paramedic allowance

The Labour Court recommended that the HSE and the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union use an independent consultant to assess the qualifications involved in advanced paramedic training, then have two expert nominees advise them on the allowance’s value. The union proposed €17,500 a year, while the employer favoured an allowance set through an agreed method rather than a new grade. The Court said it could not decide the amount directly and recommended that the process be completed by the end of March 2008. The recommendation was signed on 30 January 2008.
