In 2007, the Labour Court recommended that Cobh General Hospital and the Irish Nurses Orgainisation meet to discuss a pension scheme for the nurses covered by the claim. The recommendation was signed on 23 November 2007. The union sought a scheme equivalent to public service pensions, backdated to July 2001. Hospital management accepted the claim’s merit but said it could not secure additional funding from the HSE and the Department of Health and Children. The Court’s recommendation followed an earlier one calling for discussions to be expedited, and allowed the union to refer the claim back if it remained unresolved.
