In 2007, the Labour Court recommended that Golden Pages and the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union resume talks over sales targets and earnings. The recommendation was signed on 22 November 2007. The union said higher targets reduced sales representatives’ earning potential and were introduced without prior consultation. Golden Pages said targets reflected market conditions and that above-target earnings were discretionary. The Court noted the 2007 changes had disadvantaged sales personnel in the short term. It recommended discussions on compensation for 2007 earnings losses and targets for 2008 onwards, to be dealt with together. Golden Pages had offered a once-off payment and related recalculations based on a 15% reduction in new-business targets.
