The Labour Court did not find in favour of the Irish Medical Organisation’s claim for compensation over a pay-scale anomaly affecting anaesthetics specialist registrars. The recommendation was signed on 12 November 2007. The union said registrars appointed before a 1999 agreement received less than later recruits despite supervising them and carrying greater responsibility. It sought €5,000 for each incremental point below the appropriate scale for every year in higher training. HSE-Ea said the agreement covered existing registrars’ pay arrangements. The Court found that the agreement specified existing specialist registrars would retain the senior registrars’ salary scale, including incremental credit progression, and supported HSE-Ea’s position.
