Labour Court recommends new annual leave agreement for Killarney Town Council staff

By Orla Quinn

Place: no local area assigned from the source.

The Labour Court recommended that Killarney Town Council and the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union re-engage to agree an annual leave allowance for the Council’s outdoor staff. The recommendation was signed on 12 November 2007. The workers had received 24 days’ leave from 2002 to 2004. The union said the extra three days followed a local agreement linked to changes in work practices; the Council said the grade’s entitlement was 21 days and the additional leave had been granted in error. The Court said neither side could plausibly explain how the 24-day allowance continued for three years. It recommended basing the local allowance on the general level for the same category of worker in Kerry County Council.
