The Labour Court recommended a 24-hour compensation formula for nurses at Monaghan General Hospital in a dispute over night-shift hours. The recommendation was signed on 18 October 2007. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union sought retrospection for periods before an agreement backdated to August 2004. It said nurses doing night shifts had been underpaid four hours for every two weeks of night duty since 1968. HSE North East said it could not compensate for extra night-duty hours while staff were not working their contracted day-duty hours. The Court recommended the formula previously used in similar regional hospital cases.
