The Labour Court recommended that the Institute of Technology (Tralee) and the Irish Municipal, Public and Civil Trade Union arrange an evaluation of two posts in a grading dispute. The recommendation was signed on 11 October 2007. The union sought to upgrade a payroll officer from Grade 5 to Grade 6 and a help-desk coordinator from Grade 3 to Grade 4. It said their duties had expanded and similar posts at other institutes were graded higher. The institute said the grades were appropriate and warned that upgrading the posts in isolation could lead to other claims. The Court recommended appointing a suitable person or body to evaluate the two posts against Grade VI and Grade IV roles at the institute. It said the parties should reconsider their positions in light of the evaluation.
