The Labour Court recommended that Mid-Western Regional Hospital offer four available permanent hours to six chefs seeking to return to full-time work. The recommendation was signed on 8 October 2007. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union said the chefs’ contracts allowed them to return to full-time hours and argued that hours used by staff acting up as chefs should be reassigned. The hospital said only four permanent hours were available and temporary chefs covering other hours had contracts of indefinite duration. The Court found that management had applied the agreement correctly and recommended offering the four hours to the applicants under its terms.
