In a dispute over severance terms during the temporary closure of The Point Exhibition Centre for renovations, the Labour Court recommended that The Point Exhibition Company Ltd increase its offer from 3.75 to 4.5 weeks’ pay per year of service, plus statutory redundancy entitlements. The recommendation was dated 3 September 2007. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union and the Technical, Engineering and Electrical Union had sought five weeks’ pay per year of service plus statutory entitlements. The company said its offer was already above the norm for the cinema and theatre sector and argued against setting a higher precedent. The Court cited the unusual nature of the employment and recommended the increase on an entirely non-precedential basis.
