The Labour Court recommended that Ladbrokes (Ireland) Limited pay a worker five weeks’ pay per year of service, including statutory redundancy, with no cap, and one month’s pay in lieu of notice still outstanding. The recommendation was signed on 27 August 2007. The worker, who had been employed since 1986, said an alternative role would have reduced his earnings and sought improved redundancy terms. The company said it had offered suitable alternative work and redundancy terms in line with previous cases. The Court found the alternative work was unsuitable and the severance paid was inadequate compared with settlements in similar employments.
