The Labour Court recommended that Irish Ferries increase its voluntary redundancy offer to 4.5 weeks’ pay per service year, plus statutory entitlements, capped at 135 weeks’ pay per person. The recommendation was signed on 21 August 2007. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union (SIPTU) sought six weeks’ pay per service year without a cap, citing terms previously paid to seafarers. Irish Ferries offered four weeks per year, capped at 104 weeks, and said the earlier seafarer package reflected delays caused by training outsourced staff. The Court recommended that the other elements of the earlier offer be accepted.
