The Labour Court recommended a new six-step pay scale and improved overtime, shift and Sunday rates for toll operators and supervisors employed by Q Park Ireland Limited. The recommendation was signed on 13 August 2007, following a claim by the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union. The Court found their pay and conditions were below those normally paid in comparable jobs. Q Park Ireland Limited argued its contract capped what it could pay and that granting the union’s claim would leave it with an annual loss. The recommended scale began at €10.50 an hour for cashiers and €12.50 for supervisors from 1 July 2007, rising over five years to €12 and €14 respectively. The Court also recommended overtime premiums of time-and-a-quarter after 36.5 hours, time-and-a-half after 39 hours and double time after 43 hours. Night work from midnight to 7am would attract a 33.33% allowance; double-day shifts and work from 7pm to midnight would attract 20%. Sunday work would be paid at time-and-a-half when rostered and double time when worked as overtime.
