Labour Court recommends uncapped redundancy terms at Johnston Press Ireland

The Labour Court recommended that Johnston Press Ireland’s offer of four weeks’ pay per year of service, in addition to statutory entitlements, apply to workers facing compulsory redundancy, with no overall cap. The recommendation was signed on 3 August 2007. The dispute followed a restructuring involving centralised operations and new technology across the company’s ten sites. Amicus argued that compulsory redundancies breached guarantees in a 1998 agreement and that a proposed cap would disadvantage long-serving workers. The company said new technology was needed to compete and described its offer as generous.
