The Labour Court rejected the Technical, Engineering And Electrical Union’s claim for a substantial pay increase for craftworkers at Abbott Ireland (Cootehill), saying it saw no grounds to recommend an increase to the company’s conciliation offer. The recommendation was dated 8 August 2007. The union cited an hourly rate of €17.46 for the craftworkers, compared with rates of €21.49 and €20.47. The company argued that competition constrained its offer and that higher costs could affect job security.
