The Labour Court recommended that the Health Service Executive (West) and the Irish Nurses Organisation discuss the Director of Nursing post at Rock Hospital in the wider national context. Management had replaced the retiring director with a Clinical Nurse Manager 3, prompting the union to seek a Director of Nursing appointment. The Court said the accepted Report of the Commission on Nursing provided for a Director of Nursing in Band 5 hospitals. Given the proposed merger of Rock and Sheil hospitals, it recommended discussion within the Health Service National Joint Council. The recommendation was signed on 9 July 2007.
