The Labour Court recommended that the Personal Injuries Assessment Board pay a worker €15,000 after finding it had failed to apply fair and equitable standards when interpreting a referee’s responses. The recommendation was signed on 25 June 2007.
The worker had applied for an assessor role while employed by an insurance company. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union said she believed she had received a verbal offer and resigned on one month’s notice. PIAB said it had made no offer and that she had not left her existing job.
The Court said a prospective employer should assess referees’ views fairly and thoroughly, and found PIAB fell far short of that standard in its dealings with the applicant.
