The Labour Court recommended that the National Rehabilitation Hospital and Services Industrial Professional Technical Union hold immediate talks, with help from an independent expert, on a flexible 39-hour roster for 34 healthcare assistants. The recommendation, signed on 5 June 2007, said the roster should cover five of six days from Monday to Saturday, with compulsory overtime on rostered Sundays. The Court said the arrangements needed to ensure the assistants worked their contracted hours and met the hospital’s needs. It recommended at least two weeks’ notice of roster changes and that the discussions be completed within four weeks.
