Labour Court backs Beamish and Crawford positions on workplace disputes

In 2007, the Labour Court recommended that Beamish and Crawford’s position be accepted on contractors and shift patterns in its dispute with the Technical, Engineering and Electrical Union. The recommendation was signed on 9 May 2007. The Court recommended a comprehensive agreement on previous arrangements within three months and adequate training for maintenance controller functions. It did not recommend conceding the union’s claims on call-in and telephone contact or bottling plant changeovers. It said craft numbers should be dealt with under part-time work legislation, while any loss of earnings from shift changes should be compensated at twice the annual loss.
