The Labour Court recommended staffing and workplace arrangements for the opening of Cork University Maternity Hospital, following a dispute involving Cork University Hospital / HSE South, the Irish Nurses Organisation and the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union. The recommendation was dated 20 March 2007. The Court recommended a complement of 375 qualified midwives and nurses, urgent recruitment to address any shortfall and a staffing review within three to six months of opening. It also recommended restoring offers on promotions, retaining paid meal breaks for specified midwives until the end of 2008, keeping parking at Erinville Hospital available for staff where feasible, and granting affected staff one additional day of leave in the 2007–08 leave year.
