The Labour Court recommended that Mayo County Council increase its proposed compensation for refuse collection workers affected by the service’s closure from two years to three years of lost earnings, including overtime, refuse allowance and bonus. The dispute with the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union followed the Council’s decision to cease refuse collection. The Council had proposed redeployment, job security or optional severance, pension mitigation and compensation. The Court recommended that workers accept the improved offer in full and final settlement. The recommendation was signed on 6 March 2007.
