The Labour Court recommended increasing the lunch allowance for five Connacht Court Group drivers in Limerick from €8.89 to €12 a day, effective 4 October 2006. Its recommendation was dated 28 February 2007. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union sought €15 a day, arguing the allowance had lost purchasing power over 10 years. Connacht Court Group said an increase would raise costs and affect the wider group, and that the existing allowance was fair and comparable with local employers. The Court recommended linking the allowance to future National Wage Agreements or any local agreement replacing them, beginning with the first phase of Towards 2016, in full and final settlement of the union’s claim.
