The Labour Court recommended a €2,000 compensatory lump sum for each of two relief operators in Glanbia’s Fermentation Room and a 33.33% premium for seven-day, four-cycle working in the Serrick 2 area. Its recommendation was signed on 17 January 2007.
The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union sought to extend the increased relief premium to all hours worked and sought a 42% premium for the new shift cycle. Glanbia argued the increases were unsustainable and that the relief premium applied only when workers were performing relief duties.
The Court recommended the 33.33% premium on the same basis as Glanbia’s current offer. It did not recommend the union’s claim to extend the relief premium to all hours, but recommended the one-time lump sums for the two operators as an exceptional measure that would set no precedent.
