The Labour Court did not recommend concessions on a union claim for a higher travel and subsistence allowance for building and maintenance staff and relief staff at Iarnrod Eireann. The recommendation was dated 18 January 2007. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union, National Bus and Rail Union, Building and Allied Trades Union, and Union of Construction Allied Trades & Technicians sought €35.65 for Category C staff. The company said €18.35 was correct. The Court said the 2006 agreement was intended to apply to all staff covered by its terms, without exceptions for earlier local arrangements, and that payments outside the Revenue-approved terms could put their tax-free status in question.
