The Labour Court recommended that Leitrim County Council include engineers who paid to install radio or mobile phone equipment in their cars in the buy-out arrangement for an allowance under a 1997 agreement. The recommendation was dated 17 October 2006. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union said the council had breached the agreement by not paying the allowance to engineers and planners. The council said it was intended for a small group of engineering staff and offered to buy out the allowance for those already receiving it. The Court said the agreement limited the equipment’s use to engineering staff and recommended that engineers who incurred installation expenses benefit from the arrangement.
