Labour Court rejects union claim for €20,000 in retrospective caretaker pay

The Labour Court did not recommend conceding the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union’s claim for €20,000 in retrospective pay for a Longford County Council water caretaker. The recommendation was dated 9 October 2006. The union said the worker had performed water and sewerage duties but was paid at Grade 3 rather than Grade 5 between January 2001 and February 2006. The council said the duties did not change until a restructuring in February 2006, when the worker was regraded to Grade 5. The Court said the agreement implemented that month had resolved the matter and did not recommend conceding the claim.
