The Labour Court recommended extending a lead-in allowance for Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council refuse workers from four weeks to six, with the unions accepting the proposal so the wider agreement could proceed. The recommendation was dated 5 October 2006. The dispute concerned the council's refuse collection changes and pay-by-weight system. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union and Irish Municipal, Public and Civil Trade Union sought to retain and extend a payment linked to rejecting bins. The council had proposed a one-off payment of €2,450, increased to €3,000 to account for an immediate rise in house numbers.
