The Labour Court recommended that Abb Longford pay each claimant a €500 lump sum as an advance against future profits, once a new profit-sharing scheme was finalised and accepted. The recommendation was signed on 25 September 2006. Services Industrial Professional Technical Union sought an interim payment while the replacement scheme remained unfinished. The union said increased productivity and expected profits justified a payment at least on a par with an earlier interim payment. The company said it was loss-making and that payments under the profit-sharing scheme depended on making a profit. A Labour Relations Commission proposal had provided for a one-off gross payment of €580 in December.
