In 2006, the Labour Court recommended enhanced redundancy terms for five clerical workers at Trinity College Students Union after a dispute with the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union. The employer offered two weeks’ pay per year of service plus statutory entitlements; the union sought six weeks plus statutory entitlements. The employer cited trading difficulties and said further costs could put other jobs at risk. The Court recommended four and a half weeks’ pay per year of service, inclusive of statutory redundancy payments, in full and final settlement. Its recommendation was signed on 1 September 2006.
