The Labour Court recommended that four former Corporate Cleaning Services Limited employees receive an additional €175 per year of service on top of their statutory redundancy payments. The recommendation was dated 21 July 2006. The employees were made redundant after the loss of a cleaning contract. Services Industrial Professional Technical Union sought enhanced terms, saying they had remained out of work and arguing the company should pass on the value of its redundancy rebate. The company said statutory payments were the sector norm and it could not sustain extra costs. The Court cited special circumstances in this case and said the recommendation should not be relied on as a precedent.
