The Labour Court recommended a €5,000 goodwill payment for each of three Teagasc technicians disadvantaged by a change to promotion criteria. The recommendation was dated 13 July 2006. It did not recommend promoting the technicians under the original criteria.
Teagasc changed the 2004 panel criterion from Suitable Service to Achievements after receiving legal advice about potential age-discrimination claims. The Court considered removing the service criterion prudent, but said the change should have been discussed with Services Industrial Professional Technical Union, with the legal advice provided and criteria agreed mutually.
