The Labour Court recommended that Teagasc and the Irish Municipal, Public And Civil Trade Union meet to seek a way for 14 workers to retire as Grade III officers, with the pension and lump-sum entitlements associated with that grade. The recommendation was dated 7 July 2006.
The union said the workers had been disadvantaged in promotion opportunities after transferring from the Department of Agriculture. Teagasc said they had been assimilated into other grades and had access to promotion competitions; 13 had reached Grade II level. The Court said the individual cases had merit, but described the recommendation as a unique, one-off situation that could not be used as a precedent.
