The Labour Court recommended that Alexon International Limited introduce a Christmas bonus for staff from December 2006, subject to a waiting period and a pro-rata deduction for long-term sick leave. It did not support Mandate’s claim for a bonus for 2005. The union sought a bonus as part of staff terms and conditions, arguing bonuses were normal in Irish retail and asking for compensation for the missed 2005 payment. The company said it could not fund a bonus unrelated to performance and cited difficult trading conditions. The recommendation was signed on 30 June 2006.
