The Labour Court recommended that upgrades for 12 therapists employed by the Health Service Executive take effect from 1 January 2003. The dispute with the Irish Municipal, Public And Civil Trade Union concerned the implementation date for upgrades recommended in a 2004 adjudication report. The union sought a date of 1 August 2001, while management argued for 1 June 2004, when it said the report’s findings were issued. The HSE estimated that backdating the upgrades would cost about €240,000, or €20,000 per person. The recommendation was signed on 26 June 2006.
