The Labour Court recommended an evaluation of certain HSE nurse managers against assistant directors of nursing working as Night Superintendents in Band 1 and 2 hospitals. The recommendation was signed on 16 June 2006. The Irish Nurses Organisation sought to regrade the out-of-hours nurse managers from CNM3 to assistant director of nursing. The union said they carried hospital-wide responsibilities comparable to Night Superintendents. Management argued the claim was a relativity issue for the Benchmarking Body and had proposed an evaluation at conciliation. The Court recommended that the evaluation begin promptly and conclude by 30 September 2006, followed by renewed talks. If the matter remained unresolved by 31 October 2006, the parties should return to the Court for a definitive recommendation.
