The Labour Court recommended that the National Educational Welfare Board (Newb) submit an individual case to the Department seeking approval to recognise a worker’s previous teaching service for incremental credit when setting her starting salary. The recommendation was dated 8 May 2006. The worker, an Education Welfare Officer, had previously worked as a primary school teacher. The union challenged the Board’s refusal to count that experience on her salary scale. The Court noted that the Board’s policy did not reckon her private-sector service and that its position on incremental credit had made her continued employment financially untenable.
