The Labour Court recommended that Shires Ireland Limited change its attendance-bonus calculation period from monthly to weekly. It did not recommend the union’s claims for higher pay, service pay or enhanced sick pay. The recommendation was dated 8 May 2006. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union argued that members’ pay and conditions had fallen behind comparable workplaces and sought improvements. Shires Ireland said the claims would add costs and were precluded under the Sustaining Progress agreement. The Court said the pay, service-pay and sick-pay claims were precluded under that agreement.
