The Labour Court recommended that Waterford City Council restore a meal allowance to two electricians on the same red-circled basis as workers covered by a 1988 agreement. It also recommended a €1,500 retrospection payment for Mr Fitzpatrick. The recommendation was dated 27 April 2006. The Court dismissed a separate claim for a flexibility allowance. The electricians’ union was Services Industrial Professional Technical Union. The Council said later recruits were covered by different arrangements; the union argued that the meal allowance had been unfairly withheld and that one electrician had to return to the yard for breaks.
