The Labour Court did not recommend concession of a union claim to regrade maintenance supervisors in children’s detention schools to administrative Grade VI. The recommendation was dated 11 April 2006.
The Department Of Education & Science and the Irish Municipal, Public And Civil Trade Union disputed whether the supervisors’ pay should remain linked to Health Service Executive maintenance officers. The union argued the roles were linked and involved identical work; the Department said benchmarking had severed the pay links and the claimants had already been regraded to Grade V. The Court concluded that benchmarking had severed previous pay links and established new pay levels for each grade.
