The Labour Court recommended changes to procedures, shift premiums, sick pay, callout pay and supervisors’ conditions at Metroplex Ireland Limited, following a dispute with the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union. The recommendation was signed on 16 February 2006. The Court recommended a grievance and disciplinary procedure that provides for appropriate employee representation, a 15% average premium for warehouse operatives on qualifying late-night shifts, and a sick-pay scheme of up to four weeks a year after one year’s service, with no pay for the first three days of absence. It made no recommendation on service leave at that time. For the maintenance manager, the Court recommended callout pay beyond 30 hours a year, other specified payments and compensation equivalent to 17.5 days’ pay for public holidays worked since 2001. For supervisors, it recommended public-holiday treatment under the 1997 Act, overtime rates above 39 hours a week and an 8% salary payment for rotating shifts.
