Labour Court recommends job evaluation proceed at Royal College of Surgeons

By Cathal Brosnan

Place: no local area assigned from the source.

The Labour Court recommended that three specialist posts remain outside the job-evaluation exercise for secretarial staff at the Royal College Of Surgeons. It said the exercise should proceed promptly for other secretarial staff, with the agreed outcome implemented from 14 December 2004. The recommendation was dated 17 February 2006. The union, Services Industrial Professional Technical Union, sought inclusion of the posts and raised concerns about consultation and transparency. The College said they were specialist jobs without secretarial duties. The Court said the evaluation process should be open and transparent while recognising that specialist posts may sit outside secretarial grades. Separate union claims on service-related annual leave and long-service increments were not before the Court.
